| Somovaw – pronounced sum-of-awe, is a three piece electronic out fit that try to bridge the gap between modern electronica and classical arrangements. The music strings together atmosphere, emotion, soundscape ambience, driving themes and rhythmic energy – underlying haunting, cryptic vocals and powerful beats. It is a very hard task to achieve yet the fresh Somovaw have managed to present a very rich unique and complex sound and still drive people to the dance floor. The setup is for people to be enthralled in both watching and losing themselves in the sound while experiencing a Somovaw set. Members Steven J Mihaljevich and Naomi Pietracatella (aka Porsah Laine – Downsyde) have produced an Ep ‘Etherbye’ which incorporates these ideas – although seeing the set live really drives the messages home. “its hard to define us because our tastes in music stretch quite far, If you can imagine electronic – take out some of the digital sounding elements and replace it with more symphonic, classical sounds – add a stream of driving melodies and vocals – and then you start to get Somovaw” “It can be progressive, dark, melancholic, moody yet grounding, enigmatic, trance driven, epic and rhythmic.” Electronic music has changed so much and is constantly evolving- especially from a very “produced” sounding angle. Somovaw says its time to put the soul, depth and realness back into electronica- without it always being about who’s got the best arpeggios and samples. Behind the creation of Somovaw came alot of careful thought and planning. Naomi and Steve came from varying musical backgrounds but still share the similar ideas about emotionally expressive music designed to take people on journeys. Untrained vocalist Naomi has been experimenting with many styles of music from opera to hip hop and has been in love with singing since the age of two. |
